<Secure Emailing Without the Hassle>

Why small care providers are suddenly struggling with interoperability

Over the past few months, we’ve seen the same message appear more and more often. A municipality or chain partner sends out a notice: “From now on, your email must comply with NTA 7516. And we want it delivered securely into our inbox.”

A reasonable request. But in practice, it creates a lot of uncertainty for smaller care providers. Especially now that organisations are putting much stronger pressure on interoperability: secure email must arrive directly in the inbox not through a portal or download.

And that’s exactly where things often go wrong. Many tools that promise ‘secure email’ behave differently when it actually matters. A secure message suddenly becomes a portal message. A plug‑in only works in the old Outlook. On a Mac it crashes. On a mobile device you can no longer send encrypted messages at all.

And then the question we hear so often comes up: why has secure email become so complicated?

NTA 7516

<Where care professionals>

run into problems

We see the same pattern across many organisations. They work fully in Microsoft 365, yet for secure email they suddenly have to rely on a separate system. On one laptop encrypted email works; on another it doesn’t. In community care, sending secure messages from a phone or tablet sometimes fails entirely.

The result: technology dictates how care professionals work, while it should be the other way around.

<Until someone asked>

can’t this be easier?

Recently, a care provider came to us with a very clear request: less hassle. No plug‑ins, no portals, no extra steps. Just secure email directly from Outlook, fully in line with the standard.

By looking at what actually works, we arrived at an approach that simply makes sense: security that operates behind Microsoft 365, without extra software on the device, and with secure inbox delivery exactly as chain partners require. For this organisation, it was a relief. Not because it was something new, but because their work suddenly felt natural again.

For many of our clients, Bastion 365 turns out to offer exactly that: no extra friction, but secure communication that complies with NTA 7516 and remains fully interoperable.

<Secure email shouldn’t force a choice>

between “secure” or “practical”

The standard doesn’t ask for complex systems. It asks for secure communication that actually works in daily practice. And that’s where many current solutions fall short.

But it really can be simpler. No technical detours. No portals. No extra accounts. Care professionals can keep working the way they’re used to. Chain partners receive messages securely. And everyone knows the security is in place without additional steps.

<Finally>

secure email that fits daily practice

Many care providers recognise the pressure from chain partners, the technology that lags behind, and the desire to simply keep things running smoothly. The feeling of constantly adjusting while you just want to move forward.

It doesn’t have to stay that way. Often, the solution starts with a simple question: can this be both easier and more secure?

The answer is yes.
